Hungryy FAQ

Last updated 12 August 2026

Everything people ask about scanning food calories with Hungryy — accuracy, Malaysian dishes, privacy, installing the app and what the numbers mean.

What is Hungryy?

Hungryy is a free AI food calorie scanner built in Malaysia by NAX Malaysia. You point your phone camera at a meal, or upload a photo, and Hungryy identifies the dish and estimates calories, protein, carbs, fat, fibre, sugar, sodium and key micronutrients — then shows how long you would need to run, cycle, swim or do HIIT to burn it off.

How accurate is the calorie estimate?

Hungryy cross-checks the AI estimate against food composition references, validates the macro-to-calorie maths (4/4/9 kcal per gram) and the kcal-per-gram ratio, then shows a confidence score and a calorie range with every scan. Typical accuracy for a clearly photographed single dish is within 10–20%. Hidden oil, sauces and unusual portion sizes are the main sources of error, so you can adjust the serving size and the numbers recalculate instantly.

Does Hungryy recognise Malaysian food?

Yes. It is tuned for local dishes such as nasi lemak, char kuey teow, roti canai, curry laksa, nasi kandar, satay, teh tarik and kuih, alongside international, halal, Chinese, Indian and Western food.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no login and no password. Your scans, calendar history, body profile and daily goal are stored only in your own browser on your own device.

Is Hungryy free?

Yes, Hungryy is free to use. Install it to your Home Screen from your phone browser and it behaves like a native app, including offline access to your saved history.

Can I scan packaged food barcodes?

Yes. Switch the scanner to Barcode mode and Hungryy looks the product up in the Open Food Facts database, or you can type the barcode number manually.

How do I install Hungryy on my phone?

On iPhone open hungryy.my in Safari, tap the Share button and choose Add to Home Screen. On Android open hungryy.my in Chrome, tap the menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.

Is Hungryy available on desktop?

The scanner is mobile-only because it needs a phone camera. Reference pages such as the healthy eating guide and the Malaysian food calorie chart can be read on any device.

Is Hungryy medical advice?

No. Hungryy gives AI-generated estimates for general information and should never be used for allergy safety, diabetes management or any clinical decision. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before changing your diet.

What happens to my food photos?

A photo is sent for analysis only and is not tied to any account. The saved thumbnail and results live in your browser's local storage on your device, and clearing your browser data deletes them.
