Malaysian food calorie chart
Last updated 12 August 2026
A quick reference for the calories and macros in common Malaysian dishes, snacks and drinks. Figures are typical hawker portions — your actual plate can swing 20–30% either way depending on oil, gravy and portion size, which is exactly why Hungryy estimates from your own photo.
Rice & noodle dishes
The biggest calorie source in most Malaysian meals is the oil and coconut milk, not the rice itself.
Breakfast, bread & roti
Roti canai is mostly refined flour and ghee — the dhal is the cheaper calorie choice over curry gravy.
Snacks & kuih
Deep-fried snacks absorb 8–15 g of oil each, which is 70–135 kcal of pure fat.
Drinks
Sweetened condensed milk drinks can carry more sugar than a can of soft drink. Ask for kurang manis.
Western & cafe food
Useful reference points when you eat out of the local rotation.
How many calories do you need a day?
Most Malaysian adults sit between 1,600 and 2,400 kcal a day. A lightly active woman is usually around 1,800 kcal, a lightly active man around 2,200 kcal. To lose roughly 0.5 kg a week you need about a 500 kcal daily deficit. Hungryy works this out for you from your height, weight, age and activity level.
